Madeleine Rouse

I’m Maddie Rouse, an Environmental Scientist at an environmental engineering consulting firm in Washington, DC. I graduated in 2021 from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) where I majored in Environmental Policy and Planning with a minor in Green Engineering.

I’ve always had a deep fascination with nature as a child and I’ve grown to be even more interested in the complex relationship between human and natural systems. My particular interest is in the environmental justice movement- a movement to end legislation that has systematically forced minority groups and low income communities to bear the disproportionate effect of environmental burdens (hazards such as contaminated air, soil, and water, to name a few). I hope to use the chemical and toxicological skills I’ll refine in the EMAP program as I advocate for safe, accessible drinking water to be recognized as a human right in the United States capitol and in developing nations.
