Kelsey O’Malley

Hello! My name is Kelsey O’Malley. I come to Georgetown’s EMAP graduate program with a BS in Biochemistry and minor in Environmental Science. In undergrad, I applied my education by developing research projects focused on zero-waste systems and aquatic ecotoxicology. After graduation, I began working as a chemist for the U.S. EPA Regional Laboratory in Chicago, IL. I expanded my analytical expertise by quantifying and interpreting organic contamination in the environment. During my time at the EPA, I was fortunate to have opportunities to grow as a scientist by taking on additional roles. I assisted the Office of Pesticides Program Communications Branch to research and respond to external inquiries regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and additionally served as the on-board chemist for the EPA R/V Lake Guardian’s spring survey of the Great Lakes.

As a part of EMAP’s class of 2023, I look forward to continuing research in the area of water quality and aquatic ecosystem health while collaborating with my classmates who bring scientific and non-scientific backgrounds together for a common goal of taking on pressing environmental issues using environmental chemistry and policy.
